Brazil: Enel Green Power awarded 90 MW of wind capacity.

Enel Green Power said on Thursday that is has been awarded the right to sign 20-year power supply contracts with a pool of Brazilian electricity distribution companies, which will be supplied by the Italian multinational’s new 90 MW Cristalandia wind project.

Construction of Cristalandia in the northeastern state of Bahia will require an investment outlay of $190 million, and the plant is projected to enter into service in 2017, EGP said in a statement.

Once in operation, the plant will be able to generate more than 350 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, while avoiding the annual emission of more than 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The Rome-based renewable energy corporation already manages approximately 260 MW of wind power projects in Bahia, including those already in operation and others under construction.

EGP also manages 254 MW of solar photovoltaic projects in that state, as well as more than 200 MW of wind projects awarded in public tenders in 2014.
